چکیده

This report studies a statistical skin-color model and its adaptation. By quantitative analysis and goodness-oft test, we reveal that (1) skin-color di erences among people can be reduced by intensity normalization, and (2) under a certain lighting condition, a skin-color distribution can be characterized by a multivariate normal distribution in the normalized color space. We then propose an adaptive model to characterize human skin-color distributions for locating human faces under di erent lighting conditions. The parameters of the model are adapted by a linear combination of the known parameters. The maximum likelihood criterion has been used to obtain the optimal estimation of the coe cients. The model has been successfully applied to a real-time face tracker and other applications.

Tracking of Facial Regions Using Active Shape Models and Adaptive Skin Color Modeling

It is widely accepted that skin-color is an effective and robust cue for face detection, localization and visual tracking. Well-known methods of color modeling, such as histograms and Gaussian mixture models enable creation of appropriately exact and fast detectors of skin. In particular, skin color-based methods are robust to changes in scale, resolution and partial occlusion. In real scenario...

Adaptive skin color modeling using the skin locus for selecting training pixels

Techniques for color-based tracking of faces or hands often assume a static skin model yet skin color, as measured by a camera, can change when lighting changes. Therefore, for robust skin pixel detection, an adaptive skin color model must be employed. We demonstrate a chromaticity-based constraint to select training pixels in a scene for updating a dynamic skin color model under changing illum...

Self-adaptive algorithm for segmenting skin regions

In this paper, we introduce a new self-adaptive algorithm for segmenting human skin regions in color images. Skin detection and segmentation is an active research topic, and many solutions have been proposed so far, especially concerning skin tone modeling in various color spaces. Such models are used for pixel-based classification, but its accuracy is limited due to high variance and low speci...
